RAL Girl’s JV Golf started an undefeated season for a second year in a row but had the title taken away at the Mark Morris away match April 21.
The JV Jills have so far participated in two non-league matches against Hockinson and Ridgefield and three league matches against Woodland, Mark Morris, and Washougal.
The girls mashed the Spudders April 14 244 to 387, annihilated the Hawks April 13 254 to 363, and pounced on the Panthers April 23 227-287.
“I’m really proud of us [for beating Hockinson] because it was hailing hard and all of our hands were numb that day but we still did awesome,” Skylar Clark 11 said.
The Jills suffered their first loss against Mark Morris April 21 at The Country Club 257-249.
“It was a tough day,” was all Coach Strader could say about the Mark Morris match.
The JV team consists of Hannah Bennett 11, Skylar Clark 11, Jane Forman 10, Amber Byrum 11, Allison Kolberg 9, and Jessica Sanchez 9 but players swing back and forth between Varsity and JV according to their match scores.
The JV Jills played a tough match against Woodland April 16 and won 241 to 244 due to disqualification by Woodland because of a scoring error by one of the players.
Coach Parks and Coach Strader are very proud of the JV team so far.
“Our best quality is definitely our depth, we have our very talented players but we’re always consistent,” Parks said. “We don’t shoot a 40 one day and then a 70 the next.”
According to the coaches, a player to be sure to watch is Hannah Bennett 11. Bennett is ranked 8th between Varsity and JV which has 12 players in all. She has improved very much since her freshman year and is a consistent player, golfing low scores left and right.
“We rank our girls on their match scores, and Hannah is doing very well this year,” Parks said.
