Boys Soccer Finish with A Bang
May 29, 2009 · written by Austin Scroggins
The RAL Boys Soccer team finished off their season by defeating Washougal 2-1. In the middle of the first half the Jacks capitalized on a corner kick with Enrique Leon 11 putting the ball in the net off an assist from Omar Gomez 11.
After it being tied 1-1 at halftime the Jacks came out on the field ready to finish it. With about 15 minutes left in the game, Omar Gomez received the ball from a pass and took on one…two…three players on the right side. He looked up and saw the goalie out of place and put the ball in the back of the net for the game winning goal. Other standouts in the game were Robbie Tackwell 12 and Julio Batista 11.
The Jacks placed 5th in league this year after a tough season. The Jacks (9-6 overall) out-played nearly every team on the field by keeping possession of the ball more than 60% of the time. Most games the Jacks would outshoot the other team by more than eight shots.
“We just couldn’t put the ball in the net all season.” said Omar Gomez 11.
The Jacks had an interesting season this year, winning all four of their pre-season games and then only winning five more games during the season. The Jacks finished just short of going to districts and will therefore not have a chance to compete in state.
“I just wish we could have gone to state for my senior year.” said Robbie Tackwell 12.
