October 2, 2009 · written by Britton Baker
Cutting their summers short, the RAL girl volleyballers started practicing on the 24th of August, with practice times ranging around two hours. The RAL girl’s volleyball team was getting back in action for the ’09-’10 school year.
The first home game was on September 8 with a mighty win over Mt. View. The girls won three sets to one with games scores 25-14, 11-25, 25-12, and 25-18. The downfall of the second game, where they lost 11-25, was that there was a change in the line up. The Jills got it back together for the third and fourth game to rap it up.
With Katlyn Sarysz, Aryn Aston, and Miranda Wilson as returning seniors and Hannah Johnson, Kylee McGeary and Rachel Morrow as returning underclassmen; RAL plans to come back with new ways and tactics to produce a successful year.
They have been doing team building activities and practicing hard to make the team flow and come together more.
“I would like to see active participation in the student section and the increase in school spirit at matches. This really pumps up the team,” said Ms. Johnson, c-squad coach.
Katlyn Sarysz and Rachel Morrow lead the team in kills; Sarysz five and Morrow four. Also, Hannah Johnson and Miranda Wilson stayed right behind with three hard kills each.
Other stats for the game are Meagan Hollis with five assists and Hannah Johnson with 11. Sarysz helped by putting up three blocks. Aryn Aston had an amazing night serving; with 31 of 34 serves in, 28 points scored and six aces. Not far behind Hannah Johnson served 14 for 14 with 9 points and one ace.
The team played their hardest and put in the max amount of effort to produce an outstanding victory over Mt. View, it was a well deserved win. The next home game will be on September 15th against the Kelso Highlanders
