Girls Bowling: Start of the New Year A Success
December 8, 2009
By Jossie Ingram
Girls bowling is off to a good start this year. The RAL Girls’ bowling team are two year district champs, followed by state both years. They placed fourth in state all four years that they have been a team.
Ms. Slechta has been the RAL girls bowling coach for five years.
“There is no way to tell this early in the season whether or not the team will be as good as last year,” Slechta said.
Slechta does have a positive attitude for this coming season.
“I believe we will win more games than we will lose,” Slechta said.
This year is a rebuilding year for the girls’ bowling team due to the loss of five seniors. The returning seniors this year are Harley Dahlquist, Sarah Nein, Sarah Williams, and Kendra Hessler.
Slechta wants to see how far the freshman will take the bowling team this year. The team is working on focus and consistency to improve their overall performance.
Mark Morris and RAL bowl at the same bowling alley, but they are still rivals, just like any other sport. The practices are held at the Triangle Bowling Alley.
“We don’t have any problem with Mark Morris, but we don’t bowl with them, they are just at the same place as us,” Slechta said.
The Jills won their first match against Evergreen High School with an average score of 1644 to 1604.
“It was a good opening game,” Slechta said.
A bowling match is ran by knocking over as many pins as you can. You get a point for each pin. You preferably want to get a strike, which is getting all ten pins that allows you to get more points. In the end of all rounds you take all scores and make an average.
The next Girls’ Bowling match is going to be held on November 24th against Skyview at 3:15p.m at the Triangle Bowling Alley.
The Girls Bowling team is off to a great start for their 2009-2010 season.
