Wrap up Tennis, Soccer. VB, Golf, and Swim: End of Fall Season Sports
December 8, 2009
By Sullivan Carter
2009 fall sports were a turn around point for RAL sports.
Four out of the seven teams had players who went to state for the jacks; football, volleyball, tennis, and cross country.
Girls swimming advanced to districts and boy’s golf and girl’s soccer did not advance to any post season games.
Although they could not advance, the very young girl’s soccer team competed in all games. They never gave up throughout the year.
The Lumberjills won only two games this year but have high hopes for next years team, which will consist of more juniors and seniors then this year.
As well as soccer, our boy’s golf team is extremely young consisting of only two senior veterans, Shane Oliva and Kevin Sheehy.
RAL golf only won one match this year but never gave up and every match was close. This year’s team had many juniors and sophomores on varsity; therefore, there are high expectations for up coming years.
Girls swimming were successful this year. Although they did not send any swimmers to state, girls swimming still managed to send Tara Haas12 to districts.
The swim team has faced some problems this year with the turnout being so low, it makes it nearly impossible for the girls to win.
This year’s swim team was full of personal record which is equally important to winning.
Boys Tennis was full of success this year. Tyler VonDracek 11, Nick Schoen 12, and Jonathon Haukaas 12 all made it to state for tennis this year.
Tyler VonDracek and Nick Schoen are going to state as doubles partners and Jonathon Haukaas is going to state as a single. The Jacks played very well this season, sending three kids to state.
If one of the two teams wins at state it will the first time the jacks have won a state game in tennis for more then thirty years.
The 2009 fall season was very successful for RAL. We hope that more success will come in the future.
The Jacks and Jills did great in all sports and always showed Lumberjack pride.
