Art Competition

The 6 artists from RAL got their chance to shine this month at the annual Southwest Washington regional art competition in Vancouver.

The artists: Joe Wright12 with a ceramic turtle sculpture, the collaboration of Britt Baker10, and Kelsey McNeal10 with their ceramic giraffe mask, Lyndsey Norris-Collette11 with a zebra sculpture, Gray Earnest11 with a color pencil drawing, Kim Swanson12 with a mixed media, and Rose Edwards10, with a mixed media piece, were all selected by Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Frey, and Ms.Brown.

The teachers hand select 6 artists to go annually. This year, the judge’s choice award went to Rose Edwards.

The competition showcases art from all the high schools in the southwest Washington area. “There’s a lot of good local art shown, it’s nice to be recognized outside of the classroom for work we’ve done.” Said Kelsey McNeal10.

The artists, their parents and their teachers are all invited to go, and celebrate with a dinner beforehand. “The dinner was really fun” Said Rose Edwards10.

Another fun art event coming up is the annual student art show for RAL, MM, and Kelso students held this year at the Expo Center on may 11-15. Be sure to drop by and support your local artists.
