Fathers, Daughters, and France

French Club helps Parks and Rec. with Father Daughter Ball

The father daughter ball was declared a success by all involved. The Parks and Recreation sold out for all four events! RAL’s very own French Club volunteered to help the French theme come to life.

“I thought it was great how many people keep showing up, it sells out,” said Garret Nelson 11. He played the keyboard for all four events. “It’s almost a tradition [for the fathers and daughters] now.”

French Club helped decorate the McClelland Arts Center with posters, a giant card board version of the Eiffel Tower, craft tables, as well as set the mood by speaking French throughout the night.

“I was really proud of French Club,” said Madame Ditewig, the French teacher at RAL. “I love the way everyone got into their roles.”

Volunteers included a ballerina, pianist, saxophone player, and artist. Several other ladies from French Club did a great job serving treats to the daughters and their fathers. Other volunteers helped check the guests in and gather coats.

Fathers did their best to keep up with their daughters on the dance floor. The girls taught their dads how to do the Cha Cha Slide, while the older dads had a blast teaching their girls how to do the Twist. All generations came together for the ‘YMCA’ and the ‘Hokey Pokey.’

Flowers were given to each daughter, though some were very shy and politely declined. The girls could decorate their own fan for the evening while waiting in line to take pictures. On their way out, each daughter received a bag full of goodies; fathers were given the choice of dark or milk chocolate.
