Knowledge Bowl:Staff Puts Students In Their Place
April 17, 2009
The Knowledge Bowl team was not able to overcome the faculty’s wide range of wisdom on March 10th as the staff dealt them a tough 29-16 loss during the annual student vs. faculty knowledge bowl competition.
“It was a huge upset,” junior Knowledge Bowl team captain Garret Nelson said.
For the most part the match was tied throughout the competition until Mr. Weber went on a spree once history questions came into play, and secured the win for the staff.
“Weber began to show his true colors and got more than a few answers right in a row,” Nelson said.
The annual student vs. staff competition is meant to be a fun last event to wrap up the Knowledge Bowl season. Questions that were asked during the match were mostly based on the subjects of history, math, and science, with a random ball question thrown in here and there.
Knowledge Bowl members who competed for included Nelson, Aubrey Johnson, Brent Mackenzie, Bobby Snyder, and Conner Jolly. Competitors for the staff included Mr. Weber, Mrs. Navarro, Mrs, McElroy-Weber, Mr. Tietjen, Ms. Peine, and Mr. Wirtz.
While the Webers did a fine job for the staff, Johnson put on a spectacular performance on the student team.
Due to a major loss of key players over the past few years such as Herbie Chess and Alissa Wittrock, the varsity Knowledge Bowl team is experiencing a rebuilding phase. This year the varsity team competed at regionals but did not make it to the state tournament.
The JV team on the other hand had an excellent year, finishing third in the regional tournament.
