Retiring Teachers

From the time since Mt. St. Helens blew to a time before then, they have been teaching and interacting with kids, now we tell Mr. Fogus, Ms. Fidler, and Ms. Warren to have an amazing and relaxing retirement.

Starting his first 7 years in schools in Chicago, Astoria, and Seattle Mr. Fogus began his carrier. Later he ended up in Longview, Washington to finish his carrier this spring with 27 years at RAL and 34 years total.

“I’m going to 65 in May and I want more time to swim and read,” said Mr. Fogus after being asked, why retire?

Activities Fogus enjoyed most about teaching is getting to know the students and push them forward to life time goals. Also, showing students that there are unlimited ideas to life and to never stop going forward.

At this point of the year Mr. Fogus is 80% positive on retirement ending his years here at R. A. Long high school.

Mr. Fogus, a teacher of 34 years retires from the RAL English department at the end of this year.

A second retiring teacher at RAL is Ms. Fidler, ending her teaching carrier with a total of 33 years. Three of those years were taught at a small Christian school filling the rest of here time here at RAL.

“Working with students is probably my favorite part of teaching and my least favorite part is trying to work with kids that don’t care about their work or graduation,” Ms. Fidler said.

She also hates all the grading she has to do on all the assignments, as a teacher, but will look back on it and see the success of the students and remember the good times.

After retirement she looks forward to more free time to do things she enjoys doing and having time to have fun.

Out of all the years of teaching Ms. Fidler’s favorite and most memorable year ended up being her very first year. It was the year Mt. St. Helens blew. She remembers having to end school a week early because of all the ash then later having to back to make up the week of school and hardly any of the students coming back. Then while in school for that last week having to wear a white face mask to protect them from the ash floating in the air.

Last but certainly not least is Ms. Warren teaching a total of 27 years, two being in Spokane and 25 here at RAL.

“I think what I will miss the most is all the kids and my co-workers. I really loved when students finally understand what they are doing and that light bulb finally turns on,” said Warren

Ms. Warren could not pick just one moment that was the most memorable there are just too many for her to count.

After retiring Ms. Warren looks forward to the days of sleeping and not having to wake up to an alarm clock. Also she wants to be able to go and travel but she’s uncertain where at this moment.

We thank these teachers who have put there heart into there job and have changed many student’s lives by what they do. So we wish them a long and relaxing retirement.
