Vice Principle receives well earned Award
May 1, 2009 · written by Britton Baker
On April 6th, 2009 our own Vice Principal and Athletic Director, Ty Morris, was inducted into the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrator Hall of Fame.
To qualify for this lifetime achievement award, one needs to have served for a minimum of 15 years as an Athletic Director, been actively involved in local, state and national associations, and provided major contributions to the community.
Mr. Morris was at one time President of the District 4 Sports League, then voted by board members to represent District 4 as a WIAA Representative Assembly Member. Later he became President of WSSAAA, and had the honor of representing Section 8 on the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association Board of Directors, one of the highest levels in our community.
After putting in countless hours and effort, Ty received a Certified Masters Athletic Administrator Certificate and became one of the few individuals in Washington State with this certification
Above all, one must be nominated by a school or school administrator in Washington State to receive the Hall of Fame award. Letters have been sent in nominating Morris from as far away as Tumwater, and as close as our rival school Mark Morris.
After a four-year stint as RAL’s football and softball coach, and RAL English teacher, he served 2 years as Assistant Athletic Director and Vice Principal, then 26 years as RAL’s Athletic Director, Vice Principal, and Longview Memorial Stadium Director. Morris has guided many athletic directors around the state and lead within the organization to ensure that athletics and activities thrive through the schools.
He is thought of as a mentor to coaches within our conference and a “go to guy” for new Principals and Athletic Directors state wide. At one time he was asked to serve as Head Principal many years ago before his children were in high school.
“It just pleases me to see kids put in the effort to get through school and become teacher, coaches, and some even principals. Most of all I’m pleased with Carolyn Peck, I’ve been working with her for many years and I couldn’t have made it this far without her,” said Mr. Morris.
From the time he was in college at Boise State and Puget Sound, to playing professional Canadian football, he has become one of the most well known and well respected individuals in Longview, Washington.
“I appreciate Ty’s work. He is very passionate about our school, programs, and students. He connects with many students from wide ranges of backgrounds. I have also come to know Ty as a friend. Congratulations for your well deserved recognition Hall of Fame,” said Mr. Frost
Again thanks Mr. Morris for all your efforts here at RAL and Congratulations on your WSSAAA Hall of Fame.
