ASB Elections

May 29, 2009 · written by Jane Forman

As this 2008-09 school year comes to an end, we step aside for our new ASB officers to blaze their fresh trail. Our new ASB officers will consist of Colin Cardwell 11 as president, Bill Davenport 10 as vice president, Alison Kolberg 9 as secretary, Hannah Morgan 11 as treasurer, and Angelique Nolan 10 as Historian.

We have experienced officers preparing for next year. Cardwell served as junior class president this year, Kolberg served as freshmen class historian, and Morgan served as ASB treasurer respectfully.

“My brother [Cory Cardwell] was an ASB officer [publicity director], and seeing him involved in the school so much inspired me to join ASB,” Cardwell said.

Cardwell believes that he will be a strong leader because he has been through many leadership programs such as Boy Scouts, HOBY, Red Cross, and SOGUS that have trained him and given him skills he can use as president.

“I know how to be a leader, and when I have people to work with me, I know I can accomplish what needs to be done.”

Cardwell believes that many new things can be improved in ASB, such as making sure all planned events happen well and on time, and “if possible,” attempt at starting some new traditions.

Cardwell believes that ASB this year did a “great” job but just once was he disappointed. The ASB officers had told Cardwell and his fellow junior class officers to make a float for halftime at basketball homecoming. After spending hours working on the float and ready to roll it out and show off their hard work, the ASB officers called it off.

“We never got to show off our hard work,” Cardwell said. “I will make sure that doesn’t happen again.”

Cardwell contributed many good things as junior class president but also had a few flaws. He failed to follow through with the Junior Carnival and then failed again when he rescheduled it. He has also, according to a few juniors, not donated any of his time to helping with homecoming floats over the past years as he has been class president sophomore and junior year.

Hannah Morgan, our new ASB treasurer, has the most experience on the team. She was treasurer for ASB last year as well and observed the other officers at work.

Morgan’s duties include helping with and organizing general student activities, signing all paperwork that requires money from ASB, and maintaining ASB’s balance.

“I think I will be a positive part of the team because I have observed and gained skills that we can use next year to be a better ASB staff,” Morgan said.

Bill Davenport 10, who is planning to be vice president, believes that he and Colin will make a “positive change at RAL.”

Angelique Nolan will be ASB’s new historian and “can’t wait for next year and the fun things ASB is going to put together.”

Nolan’s duties will be doing the morning announcements and helping her fellow officers plan activities.

“I think that ASB did a great job this year but they still have some cracks that I believe we can fill in next year,” Kolberg, new ASB secretary, said. “We’re all going to work great as a team.”
