Key Club “Caring, Our Way of Life”

June 1, 2009 · written by Kaitlyn Johnson

Key Club has come out of the dark ages at RAL; joining the ranks of more than 5,000 high school campuses nation wide.

We have been trying to revive it and it happened this year. I am really excited about this group of kids…they all definitely are “service minded” and I look for this to be a strong club next year,” said faculty advisor, Sally Morehead.

The cost to join Key Club normally is $11.50, but this year it’s only $5.00 to join due to the clubs late start. Many thanks go to the Longview Kiwanis Club for making up the difference.

Key Club is student lead; the officers are elected by the members at district and international conventions. Members of the club are learning how to serve others and to be leaders. Also, students are getting vocational guidance, a subscription to the Key Club magazine, value-added member benefit programs, and liability insurance coverage. Juniors, be aware that the club is offering college scholarships.

“We are really excited to be working with such an enthusiastic group of students who have chosen to join Key Club at RAL. There are many leadership opportunities, rallies, and conventions to attend. We have several activities planned for the summer,” said Alice Robertson.

Any student wanting to join must contact Alice Robertson, the representative and advisor from Kiwanis; another advisor is Ted Scattergood.
