Dress Code

June 5, 2009

Next year RAL will be implementing a new dress code. Teachers had some complaints about the dress code so Mrs. Hudson put together a committee of parents and teachers designed a new dress code.

“We looked at Kelso, MM, Castle Rock, Kalama and other high schools outside our area and put together a dress code that is similar to what these other major high schools have” said Mrs. Hudson.

Mr. Reeves came from a middle school that had more of a uniform type dress code;  however, is not responsible for implementing the new dress code.  The dress code is a result of a parent / teacher committee and site base commitee meeting.

These new rules include:

1.      No underwear showing ( including sports bras)

2.      No spaghetti straps, backless, strapless, halter-tops, crop-tips, half-shirts, low cut tops, one shoulder, off-shoulder or see through clothing.

3.      Skirts/Shorts must be below the fingertips when arms hang straight down at sides. Cuts/slashes/fraying must also occur below the fingertips (no holes in pants above the fingertip line)

4.      No sagging or bagging pants-pants must be pulled up

5.      No displays ( messages or pictures ) that are vulgar, obscene, profane, violent, drug/alcohol/tobacco related, affiliated with gangs, discriminatory or demeaning to any person due to race, religion, ethnic group, gender or sexual orientation (including confederate flags or swastikas)

6.      No hats, bandanas (even for spirit days), hairnets, head wraps, pulled-up hoods or sunglasses (exceptions for approved medical or religious reasons)

7.      No unsafe jewelry such as spikes, long chains, etc.

8.      Team Uniforms must also follow these rules (baseball players cannot where their hats to school, cheerleaders cannot wear their skirts without sweats on underneath, etc…)

9.      Painting up at games is not allowed.

If these rules aren’t followed, students will first be asked to cover themselves up or change their clothes and if they don’t have anything to change into they will be given an RAL shirt to cover up with. If students refuse to cover up or change they will be sent home.

So you are saying that a cheerleader uniform is not acceptable at school but it is acceptable at a football game in front of their classmates and parents?
