Senior Project Spotlight: What You Need To Know

September 29, 2009 · written by Meghan Michels

Changes seem to be happening everywhere, and as the student body, you need to know them.  From staff, sports, and classes, everything has been altered.

There have been multiple changes to the senior project, an important graduation requirement that has been around for years.

The class focusing around the senior project, previously called English IV, senior seminar, is now open to juniors.

Students can now start their project hours at any time, whereas in previous years the paper must be passed beforehand.

Most changes are due to Mr. Frost’s ideas last year, such as having no handbooks for students, and no outside readers on the paper.

“I have no idea what oral boards will look like.” said Mrs. McIntyre, who has been senior project coordinator for several years. Due to budget cuts and Mr. Frost deeming it unnecessary, the position of coordinator has been eliminated.

Another change is now students choose their own evaluator on the staff. Each staff member can have up to five students.

With all the changes in administration, the English teachers did their part to make the project meaningful, and are in constant communication.

“I don’t think it will ever go back to how it was.” said McIntyre.
