Three years ago, RAL Leadership created the Mr. Lumberjack pageant, a contest for Junior and Senior boys. Ten boys  were selected by Leadership to participate in this year’s pageant on November 23.

Every year, Mr. Lumberjack has donated proceeds to different charities. This year, Leadership decided to donate to the local St. Vincent de Paul, a charity to serve all who are suffering in our community. Students were charged a can of food or a donation of money to enter and contestants collected money before the pageant.

“We collected about 500 pounds of food and over $700,” said Christina McDonald 12, Senior Vice President and an organizer of the pageant.

This year’s contestants, Erick Cottrell 11, Bill Davenport 11, Christian Hudek 11, Robbie Loren 11, Bobby Snyder 11, Teran Amnotte 12, Nick Bartolus 12, Jacob Broderius 12, Cody Hollinger 12, and Luis Ramos 12, competed in categories including beachwear, sportswear, future career wear, formal wear, talent, promotional videos, and a group dance.

“I think [the pageant] went really well even though most of us were nervous,” said Bill Davenport. “By the end we all became more relaxed on stage.”

The funniest acts of the night were Bobby Snyder performing stand up comedy, Christian Hudek dancing and lip-syncing to “Barbie Girl,” and Teran Amnotte ballet dancing with Shayley Morris 12.

“Bobby Snyder was a star,” said Kaleb Carr 12, attendee of Mr. Lumberjack.

Other performances included Bill Davenport dancing to “Womanizer,” Robbie Loren displaying his Bop-It skills, Erick Cottrell answering questions about Santa, Jacob Broderius unscrambling a Rubix Cube, Nick Bartolus telling stand up comedy, Cody Hollinger demonstrating his magic skills, and Luis Ramos miming.

“[The pageant] was really fun and a great experience.” said Nick Bartolus.

As the night came to a close, Cody Hollinger was crowned this year’s Mr. Lumberjack

“[Mr. Lumberjack] was an entertaining night,” said Sophie Kangas 11, an attendee of the pageant. “RAL is really full of individuality and creativity.”
