As the premiere of New Moon approached, teens became increasingly obsessed with the Twilight series.

The traditional fairytale love story is what draws the teens. It’s a princess tale with a creative twist.

“I love twilight because of the love story. Edward and Bella would do anything for each other. It makes you want that kind of love” said Shayley Morris 12.

Winning many awards such as “Children’s Book of the Year”, and the 2009 “Kids Choice Award”, the obsession with Twilight has not dwindled since the first book came out in 2005. Over 70 million copies have been sold world wide in 38 different languages.

Within 10 days of the first Twilight movie out in theaters, the movie made over 100 million dollars.

However, some teens aren’t as fond of the twilight series as others.

“Twilight teaches young girls to look for abusive, controlling characteristics in people they are looking to date” said Jarrett Gosch 12, “Also, at the end of the series the heroin just gets married and has a baby. Our society has been trying so hard to teach women that there is more out there then just having babies, and Twilight is a main stream example of something pushing women the other way.”

Although some teens are against the idea of Twilight, most are huge fans of the never-ending love vampires have for their soul mates.

“The second book in the series is by far my favorite because it shows how desperate and in love Bella is with Edward, and it’s a book that’s easy to relate to,” said Lily Guernsey 12.

Twilight has expanded beyond just books and movies. There are pillow cases, collector cards, cell phone cases, games, and even underwear. It is apparent that the obsession for Twilight is definitely huge and is not going to decrease anytime soon.
