Spreading the Cheer: Miss Johnson’s Spanish Christmas Party
February 8, 2010

On Dec 17, there were many students attending a Christmas party hosted by Miss Johnson in room 114.
Starting at six and ending at about 7:30, the party was declared fun to most who came.
Kate Mauher 11 said she was also having a good time and it was “a cool thing for all the Spanish students to get together and just chill.”
With games like moving cotton balls from one bowl to another using only a spoon, to a clothespin game where you were forbidden to say words written on a list at the from of the classroom, and ending with a white-elephant gift exchange.
The white-elephant gift exchange, where the “giver” brings a gift from home or buys cheap gifts, usually under a dollar or two, and gives them to someone else. Some of the gifts were clever and others were funny or really odd.
Some of the gifts were McDonald toys, Pull-Ups, baby wipes, candy canes, stuffed animals, and play-dough. The most odd present was a box of Kleenex which had melted chocolate on some of the tissues.
The gifts being rather odd, the party-goers had fun. Anyone who attended received a gift.
For many of the party goers, the games were fun and returning the school was well worth the party.
Food was brought in by the students. Some of the foods were tamales and enchiladas. There was plenty to be eaten, and plenty of sweet snacks.
Alexis Hay 12 said “si” she was having a good time during the party, then later added “there’s cookies!”
Jessica Wale 11 said she was enjoying the Spanish party and that she would definitely come to another Christmas party next year if the opportunity rose.
Johnson’s party was great, and her reason for the party was a good, too.
“I thought it would be fun for my students to be able to get together and celebrate.”
For the party to have only lasted an hour and a half, it was well worth attending.
