RAL Shows it’s Spirit: Huge Turnout for Spirit Week and Court

Spirit week kicked off with a small assembly on Feb 5. Rachel Brown 12 announced the days of spirit week as students put on a fashion show.

The themes this spirit week were Pajama Day, Western Day, Animal Day, Element Day, and Spirit Day.

After the fashion show was finished, Mr. Dollemore announced the Homecoming Court for winter 2010.

As their names were announced, the surprised and excited students came to the stage from their seats in the balcony, or from behind the stage curtain.

The Homecoming Court princes were Nick Bartolus, Peter Spurgeon, Michael Puvogel, Levi Welch, Angelo Folz-Edwards, and Cameron Docksteader.

The Homecoming Court princesses were Christina McDonald, Hannah Bennett-Swanson, Vi Tran, Sadie Peterson, Rachel Brown, and Miranda Wilson.

Although this assembly was less than 20 minutes long, it gave new students at RAL an idea of what to expect during spirit week.

“I love spirit week,” Alyssa Tift 10 said.

“It’s awesome to be able to come to school and see the outfits that everyone came up with.”

Without a doubt, students at RAL were the most creative when it came to Element Day.

There were seniors with beachwear and goggles, juniors in camo, and a few dedicated freshmen with fire face paint.

The pep assembly on Feb. 12 went over great, with court being announced, Kevin Sheehy 12 singing the fight song, and a student versus teachers dodge ball match.

The dodge ball event of the assembly electrified the crowd.

After about 15 minutes of throws, catches, and eliminations (and Mr. Castro occasionally firing into the crowd), the students emerged victorious.

Then there was Homecoming.

During halftime of the extremely close game with Ridgefield, the court was announced.

As they made their way to the center of the gym, one by one, everyone was on their feet encouraging their princes and princesses.

Everyone held their breath as the couples unwrapped their roses, each one hoping for the white one.

Once everyone had their roses, Homecoming king and queen were announced.

Christina McDonald 12 and Levi Welch 12 are the Homecoming king and queen for Winter Homecoming 2010.
