Fall Tolo

October 7, 2009

People were glowing to go to the RAL cafeteria on October 17.

Literally.

Starting at 8 and ending at 11, some students had problems getting into the dance due to Mrs. Anderson warning students about the new rule for getting into the dance: no person without student I.D. will be let into the dance.

Setup for the dance was simple. Half of the cafeteria lights, closest to the DJ’s stage, were replaced with black lights. Some were placed on walls and pop machines. With glowing outfits and bright attitudes, the dance and theme looked like a success with many students.

Isaiah Salcido 10 said, “I thought it was awesome.”

Dylan Royce 9 said, “I thought it was pretty cool, but Halloween [theme] would have been better.”

With students claiming areas around the black lights, the dance picked up pace after the DJ played “Cotton Eye Joe”. With more students on the dance floor, the DJ played some old favorites, such as “Cha Cha Slide.”

Ashley McFarland 10 said the DJ should “play more requests that people put in,” and Erica Loney 11 said the dance needed “better dancing music.”

Salcido suggested that because the theme was neon, more techno should have been played.

As the dance wore on, people stayed where they prefer to hang out, some sticking by the walls with others on the dance floor.

“I usually go everywhere, but I mostly stay on the dance floor with my friends,” said Merissa Morris 10.

Krys Hyatt 9 said he prefers to stay by the wall.

Even though the outfits were different, almost everyone had one thing in common: glow sticks.

By the end of the dance, the floor was a glow stick graveyard; connectors and broken sticks laid on the floor, most broken on purpose or fell off the owner.

Candice Person 10, Hyatt, Salcido, and Morris all agreed the dance was “better” than expected.

The dance made about $855.44 total, after expenses were subtracted, and approximately 194 people came. Compared to last year’s $1040.18 profit, tolo did worse.
