Homecoming

October 7, 2009

With the RAL football teams’ record the highest it’s four years, student’s school spirit was up and everyone came to Friday night’s homecoming game against Hockinson excited and ready to win.

Walking down the halls Monday morning, everyone  represented different kinds of sports and professional teams. Twins filled the halls on Tuesday, blasts from the past visited us on Wednesday, and RALs’ Lumberjack pride came out on Thursday.

Students this year worked really hard on their movie themed floats and they all turned out very creative and well put together.

The freshman float was Star Wars, sophomores’ was Indiana Jones, juniors’ was Pirates of the Caribbean, and seniors’ was Charlie the Chocolate Factory.

Star Wars characters fought each other with various colored light sabers on the freshman float.

The sophomore’s float looked like a replica of Disneyland’s Indiana Jones ride, covered in vines and snakes, even equipped with a real jeep on it as well.

“Our float turned out pretty good and we worked really hard on it” said Kalyn Nelson 10.

The juniors spent the most time on their float, working on it everyday for six weeks straight. They even did some individual fundraising to offset the cost of their float.

“We helped with the booth sales at the Canterbury Inn for two and a half hours and made towards $300 our float” said Hannah Johnson 11.

The Juniors life sized pirate ship blew everyone away. The cannons that shot out fire on the sides only added to the

realistic look of their float. It cost them $700. Their float definitely won the competition.

The senior float showed several different scenes from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Equipped with mushrooms and a running waterfall, it looked very realistic. They had several Oompla Loompas, Willy Wonka, Mike Teavee, Veruca, Violet, and even Charlie himself. Compared to other floats the class of 2010 has come up with, this float outshone the previous ones.

“This year we got together and worked hard on our float, unlike other years where we just messed around” said Sara Dahl. “It turned out a lot better and really showed time we put into it.”

On Homecoming Court this year, RAL had a wide variety of students that are involved in all different aspects of the school.

The girls were looking stunning in their dresses, and the two boys not involved in football looked fabulous in their tuxes. Ashley Thompson was paired with William Yordy, Hannah Morgan with Jake Look, Maribel Sanchez with Julio Bautista, Tara Haas with J Nusbuam, Whitley Hamilton with Kaleb Carr, and our homecoming king and Queen Shauni Harding with Colin Cardwell.

Both Harding and Cardwell have kept excellent GPAs throughout all of high school and are both involved in all kinds of high school activities. Colin is our asb president and has been president of the class of 2010 for two years prior to this year. He is involved in cross country and track and is apart of the leadership class. Shauni is one of the star runners of RALs track team and a member of the National Honor Society

Overall homecoming went

along smoothly and the jacks ended up winning the game 29-3.
